Description
The Wilmslow is a 3.3m outdoor lamp post with a Victorian-style lantern head set on a cast aluminium column. The lantern features four clear glass panels within a black-painted frame, with a decorative ladder bar running vertically beneath the head. The finial-topped canopy and ornamental base casting give the post a period character suited to traditional driveways, garden pathways and courtyard entrances.
Designed for permanent outdoor installation, the Wilmslow carries an IP23 rating that protects the internal wiring and lamp holder from rain and moisture ingress at angles up to 60° from vertical. The post requires a concrete foundation or fixing plate to anchor it securely, and includes a hinged access door at the base for running mains cable from an underground conduit into the column. The E27 lamp holder accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W (sold separately), giving flexibility to choose between warm-white LED, halogen, or traditional filament lamps depending on the light output needed.
The cast aluminium construction gives the post structural rigidity without the weight and corrosion issues of cast iron, and the black powder-coat finish resists weathering in UK outdoor conditions. The 585mm-wide lantern head provides enough presence to act as a boundary marker or entrance feature without overwhelming residential driveways typically 3-4m wide. The clear glass maximises light throw onto pathways and planted borders, while the Victorian detailing on the ladder bar and base casting suits period properties, conservation areas and traditional garden schemes.
Handcrafted in the UK by Elstead Lighting, the Wilmslow combines period design detail with modern outdoor-rated materials and a three-year manufacturer's guarantee. The post can be wired to a dusk-to-dawn sensor, timer or manual switch depending on the electrical setup at the installation site.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Wilmslow take?
The lamp post takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for pathway lighting that mimics traditional gas lanterns.
How is the post installed?
The Wilmslow requires a concrete foundation or metal fixing plate to anchor the base securely. Mains cable runs through underground conduit and enters the post via the hinged access door at the base. Professional installation by a qualified electrician is recommended for outdoor mains wiring.
What does the IP23 rating mean?
IP23 provides protection from rain and moisture falling at angles up to 60° from vertical, and from solid objects larger than 12.5mm. This rating is suitable for outdoor use in exposed positions but does not offer submersion protection or full dust-sealing.
Can the post be wired to a timer or sensor?
Yes. The Wilmslow can be wired to a dusk-to-dawn photocell sensor, a timer switch, or a standard manual switch depending on how the electrical circuit is configured at installation. The post itself has no built-in control — switching is determined by the mains circuit it is connected to.
