Description

A soft black rubber disc with a central hole, made to sit between the parts of a light fitting where metal would otherwise press straight onto metal. It measures 42mm across and 5mm thick, so there is a little body to it: press it and it gives, then comes back. The face is plain matt black, with no plating or lacquer to chip, and the edge is cut clean. They come five to a pack, which suits the way they get used, since these rarely go into a job singly.

Most of the work these do is quiet: cushioning a shade against a gallery, taking up a small gap in an assembly, spreading the pressure of a nut so a finish is not marked, or stopping a slight rattle in a pendant. They suit anyone putting a fitting together from parts or bringing an older lamp back into service, and they are handy to have in the drawer before you need them. We keep them alongside our lampholders and cable grips for exactly that reason.

The washer is rubber throughout, with a matt surface that takes a knock without showing it and stays flexible in use. Rubber dislikes oil and solvent, so wipe a dusty one with a dry cloth and put it back rather than reaching for cleaner; if one has gone hard or split, replace it rather than persevere. There is nothing electrical here, no flex and no contacts, and it is intended for dry indoor rooms. It carries a one year warranty.
