Description

The Velos II is a 140cm floor lamp built around a folded sheet of micropatterned transparent methacrylate, supported by a chrome-plated metal spine. A 24W LED strip running 3000K is integrated into the frame, casting light through the methacrylate to create a translucent veil effect when lit. The shade is formed from a single sheet that folds and curves to create a three-dimensional volume resembling draped fabric.

Designed for lounges, bedrooms and open-plan living areas where sculptural form matters as much as function, the Velos II provides ambient background light rather than task illumination. The 1.5lm output is low for the wattage, making this primarily a decorative piece that contributes soft fill light. The transparent methacrylate allows the lamp to visually recede during daylight, becoming more prominent once lit in the evening. The 70cm width and 40cm depth require floor space equivalent to a small armchair footprint.

The chrome-plated metal profile runs vertically through the centre of the shade, providing structural support and housing the LED driver and cabling. The folded methacrylate creates overlapping layers where the material curves, giving variation in translucency across the surface when backlit. At 8.8kg the lamp has enough weight to remain stable on carpet or hard floors without needing to be secured. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor environments.

Is the Velos II bright enough for reading?

No. The 1.5lm output provides soft ambient fill light rather than task illumination. For reading you would need a separate desk lamp or directional floor lamp alongside the Velos II.

Can the LED be replaced?

The 24W LED is integrated into the chrome-plated frame. It cannot be replaced by the user. Schuller rates the LED lifespan at approximately 25,000 hours under typical domestic use.

How is the methacrylate cleaned?

Wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth. For fingerprints or marks, use a barely-damp cloth with distilled water. Do not use ammonia-based glass cleaners, household sprays or abrasive materials as these can scratch or cloud the micropatterned surface.

What floor space does it need?

The 70cm width and 40cm depth mean the lamp occupies approximately 0.28m² of floor space. This is similar to a small armchair footprint, so plan for clearance around furniture when positioning.
