Description

The Valknight is an 8W fire-rated LED downlight with a 65mm cut-out diameter, delivering 685 lumens of 4000K cool white light through a clear diffuser and die-cast aluminium housing. The integrated LED driver supports dimming with most trailing-edge and leading-edge dimmers, allowing output to be adjusted from full brightness down to low ambient levels depending on the dimmer model used.

Designed for residential new-builds, refurbishments and commercial installations where fire rating is required by building regulations, the downlight carries certification for 30/60/90 minute fire resistance in solid timber joists and 30 minutes in I-joist and Staircraft floor constructions. The IP65 rating allows installation in bathrooms (Zone 1 and 2), kitchens and other damp environments where moisture ingress could occur. The low 50mm recessed depth fits standard ceiling voids of 100mm or greater without modification.

The die-cast aluminium body includes an integral heat sink that maintains LED junction temperature within safe operating limits, contributing to the rated 40,000-hour L70B50 lifespan. A loop-in/loop-out terminal block on the rear of the fitting simplifies wiring across multiple downlights on the same circuit. The downlight is supplied without a bezel — Knightsbridge offers separate bezels in white, chrome, brushed chrome, brass and other finishes to match different interior schemes. An optional IC cage (VFRICC, sold separately) extends the recessed depth to 90mm and allows insulation to be laid over the fitting in loft spaces. Emergency conversion kits (VFR7EM and ICEMC, sold separately) are available for installations requiring maintained or non-maintained emergency lighting.

Is the Valknight compatible with dimmer switches?

Yes. The integrated driver supports dimming with most trailing-edge and leading-edge dimmers. Performance varies by dimmer model — test compatibility before completing a full installation, particularly if using older dimmer technology or mixing multiple downlights on one circuit.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

Yes. The IP65 rating allows installation in bathroom zones 1 and 2, including above baths and in shower enclosures. The IP20 rating from above means the void space above the ceiling does not need to be moisture-sealed.

Does the fire rating require any additional accessories?

No. The downlight carries 30/60/90 minute fire rating in solid timber joists and 30 minutes in I-joist constructions as supplied. If insulation is to be laid over the fitting in a loft space, the optional IC cage (VFRICC, sold separately) is required to maintain the fire rating and safe operating temperature.

What bezel finishes are available?

The downlight is supplied without a bezel. Knightsbridge offers separate bezels in white, polished chrome, brushed chrome, brass and other finishes to match different interior schemes. The bezel clips onto the front of the die-cast body after the fitting is installed.
