Description

This 55x55cm cushion carries the Strawberry Thief pattern, a William Morris design first drawn in 1883, worked here as a jacquard weave rather than a print. Where a printed cloth lays colour on the surface, a jacquard builds the pattern into the weave itself, so the birds, strawberries and scrolling foliage are made of the threads rather than sitting on top of them. The front reads as a deep indigo ground with the design picked out in soft blue, cream and tan, and the whole face is bordered by a piped edge in a matching dark navy.

A square 55cm cushion is a generous size, big enough to anchor the corner of a sofa or to sit at the head of a bed without looking lost. The indigo ground and the botanical pattern suit a room built around blues and warm neutrals, and it works as happily against a plain linen sofa as it does layered with other patterns.
