Description
These are our Strawberry Thief pencil pleat curtains, sold as a pair and woven as a jacquard, which means the pattern is built into the cloth on the loom rather than printed on the surface. The design itself is William Morris's Strawberry Thief, dating back to 1883, inspired by the thrushes he found stealing fruit from his kitchen garden. Here it reads in a deep berry red ground carrying birds, strawberries and scrolling foliage in soft blues, golds and creams. The cloth is 100% polyester, which holds colour well, resists creasing and drapes with a little weight to it.
They suit a room where the pattern is meant to be the point: a living room with painted panelling, a bedroom, a study with darker walls. The berry ground sits comfortably against blues and deep neutrals, and the print is dense enough to work as the anchor of a scheme rather than a quiet backdrop. Sold as a pair, the curtains are fully lined, so they carry more body across the window and block more daylight than an unlined panel would. Do check your track or pole width and your drop before ordering, because the pencil pleat header gathers the fabric and you want enough width to close fully.
The header is a 5 inch pencil pleat, which gathers into neat vertical folds and hooks onto a standard track or pole. The curtains are available in a range of widths and drops, from 117 by 137cm up to 228 by 228cm, each figure being the width of a single panel by the drop. Care is dry clean and cool iron only. If you like the Strawberry Thief print, it appears across the Morris archive on cushions and other pieces, so a room can be built around it.

Frequently Asked
Is the pattern printed or woven in?
It is a jacquard, which means the Strawberry Thief design is woven into the cloth on the loom rather than printed on the face, so the pattern has depth and does not sit only on the surface.
How do I work out the size I need?
Each size gives the width of one panel by the drop, and the pack is a pair. Measure your track or pole width and your desired drop, and allow enough width for the pleats to gather and still close fully.
Are these curtains lined?
Yes, they are fully lined, which gives the panels more body across the window and helps block more daylight than a single unlined layer would.
What kind of header do they have?
They have a 5 inch pencil pleat header, which gathers the top into neat vertical folds and hooks onto a standard curtain track or pole.
How should I clean them?
They are dry clean only, and can be pressed with a cool iron if needed. We would not recommend machine washing them.
