Description
This is the Strawberry Thief cushion, a square 50 x 50cm cover made from 100% polyester and finished with a piped edge. The front carries the Strawberry Thief pattern, first drawn by William Morris in 1883, with its pairs of songbirds tucked among trailing foliage, open flowers and small ripe strawberries. On this piece the print sits on a warm grey ground, with the birds and berries picked out in soft terracotta, cream and pale duck-egg. The reverse is a plain grey to match, edged all round with a biscuit-toned piped trim that follows the seam.
It is made for outdoor use, so it earns its place on a garden bench, a patio chair or a covered veranda where a printed cotton cushion would struggle. It works equally well brought indoors on a sofa or a window seat, and it sits happily beside the other Strawberry Thief colourways in the range, which run through greens, reds and blues, so you can mix grounds without leaving the one design. The busy, mid-scale pattern hides everyday wear and reads well from across a room as well as up close.
The cover is polyester throughout, which is why it holds up outside: the fibre does not soak up water the way natural fabrics do and it keeps its colour under daylight. A zip closure runs along one edge, so the cover pulls off for cleaning and goes back on without fuss. The piped trim runs the full perimeter and gives the edge a firm, defined line rather than a soft-rolled seam. If you are dressing a seating area, a couple of these together, or one against a plain-ground cushion, lets the Morris print do the talking.

Frequently Asked
Can this cushion be left outside?
It is made for outdoor use in a water-resistant polyester, so it copes with the garden far better than an indoor cotton cover would. We would still bring it in during heavy or prolonged rain.
Does the cover come off for cleaning?
Yes. There is a zip closure along one edge, so you can slip the cover off to clean it and put it back on without any trouble.
What is the cushion made from?
The cover is 100% polyester throughout, front and back. Polyester resists water and holds its colour in daylight, which is what makes it suited to outdoor seating.
What size is it and what does it suit?
It is a square 50 x 50cm cushion, a generous size that works well on a garden chair, a bench or an indoor sofa alike.
Is the pattern on both sides?
No. The Strawberry Thief print is on the front and the reverse is a plain grey, with a biscuit-toned piped trim running around every edge.
Where does the design come from?
Strawberry Thief is a pattern drawn by William Morris in 1883, showing songbirds among strawberry plants. This cushion reproduces that archive design as a print.
