Description

The Stormy is a 40cm ceramic table lamp with an urn-shaped base finished in a reactive sky glaze that blends blues, whites and taupes across a dimpled textured surface. The glaze is applied by hand and fired at high temperature, so each piece develops different tonal variations and pattern intensity depending on how the reactive chemicals settle during the kiln process. A cream drum shade in unbleached linen sits on a chrome collar above the ceramic base.

Designed for bedside tables, console tables in hallways, and side tables in living rooms, the 40cm height positions the bottom of the shade at approximately eye level when seated, making it suitable for reading or ambient task lighting. The 23cm-square footprint fits standard bedside table depths without overhanging. The lamp comes with a 120cm black cable fitted with an inline rocker switch, allowing it to be controlled without reaching behind furniture to a wall socket.

The dimpled texture on the ceramic base varies in depth and density across different sections of the urn, catching light differently as the viewing angle changes. The reactive glaze pools darker in the recesses and lighter on the raised dimples, creating a mottled storm-cloud appearance that shifts in tone depending on the light source and time of day. The unbleached linen shade softens the light output and complements the cooler blue-grey tones in the glaze without introducing warm yellows.

What bulb does it take?

The lamp takes a single E14 small Edison screw bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 4-6W and 2700K for bedside reading.

Yes. The reactive glaze is applied by hand and develops different tonal variations during firing, so no two lamps have identical patterning. This is a characteristic of the reactive glazing technique, not a defect.

Can the shade be replaced?

The shade sits on a standard E14 shade carrier with a chrome collar. Replacement drum shades with E14 fittings are available separately if the original becomes damaged or you wish to change the colour.

Is the inline switch on the cable?

Yes. The 120cm cable has a rocker switch approximately 30cm from the lamp base, allowing the lamp to be switched on and off without reaching behind furniture to the wall socket.
