Description

Square, slim and quiet in a ceiling, this one recesses so that only a matt white face shows at the ceiling line. Behind it sits an integrated LED drawing 18W, tuned to 4000K for a clean, cool white that keeps worktops, tiles and paintwork looking crisp rather than yellowed. The spread is broad rather than tight, so it washes a room with general light instead of picking out a single spot. Output is fixed, with no dimming, which makes it straightforward on a plain switched circuit.

It suits kitchens, hallways, landings, utility rooms and home offices, anywhere you want good light and no fitting in the eyeline. Run in a line down a corridor or spaced out over a kitchen ceiling, a few of them give a level, largely shadow-free light that is easy to work under. We tend to suggest this square face where the room already has square lines to follow, in door architrave, tiling or joinery, and the round version of the family where it does not. It runs on ordinary household mains and belongs in dry rooms, well away from splashes and open weather.

The body is matt white through and through, with no contrasting trim to fight a white ceiling, and the control gear is supplied with it, so nothing further is needed to get it lit. It is double insulated. It carries a three year warranty. Keep the face clean with a soft cloth once the light is off and cool, and keep sprays and solvents away from the white finish, which marks more readily than a polished one.
