Description

A slim square of matt white that sits down into the ceiling line, leaving little more than a neat white border on show. Light comes from a built-in LED drawing 18W, at a warm 3000K that reads soft against white paint and pale timber rather than clinical. The spread is broad rather than tight, so it washes a room fairly evenly instead of dropping hard pools underfoot. We treat this as a general light rather than an accent one, and would run several across a ceiling where a single pendant leaves the corners dim.

It earns its keep in hallways, landings, kitchens, utility rooms and home offices, and anywhere a low ceiling makes a hanging fitting a nuisance to walk under. It works at the wall switch rather than on a dimmer, which suits circuits where full brightness is simply what is wanted. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from steam and splashing. If you are replacing an older set of downlights and want a cleaner, flatter face, this is the shape we tend to point people towards, and the square outline lines up tidily with square tiles or a run of joinery.

The body and bezel are finished in matt white throughout, and the driver comes supplied with the fitting rather than being bought separately. Cleaning takes very little: with the power off and the fitting cool, a dry microfibre cloth over the face lifts dust, and a barely damp cloth deals with kitchen film. The LED is built in, so there is no lamp to change. It carries a three year warranty. The wider Saona range covers surface flush fittings as well, round and square, in several sizes and in warm or cool white, so a recessed hallway and a surface-mounted landing can be kept in the same family of shapes and the same matt white.
