Description

The Saona is a slim round downlight with a frosted acrylic face set into a matt white edge, so the lit surface reads as one soft disc rather than a bright point. The LED is integral, sitting behind that diffuser and drawing 18W for 1580 lumens of warm white light at 3000K. The spread is broad and even, which keeps shadows shallow and glare mild when you look up at it. Its control gear comes with the fitting.

We reach for a shallow downlight like this when a ceiling should look plain and uninterrupted, with the light source barely reading as an object at all: hallways, landings, kitchens, home offices and bedrooms. The gentle output makes it a sound general light for a small room on its own, or one of several spaced across a wider ceiling for steady background brightness. It is not dimmable, so plan it around a plain switch rather than a dimmer plate. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; it is not intended for shower areas or anywhere that gets splashed.

The white finish is matt rather than gloss, so it sits quietly against a painted ceiling, and the acrylic lens softens to a milky tone when the light is off. To clean, isolate the circuit, let the fitting go cold, then wipe the face with a barely damp microfibre cloth and dry it straight away; solvents and cream cleaners will haze acrylic, so leave them in the cupboard. There is no lamp to change here, as the LED and its diffuser are one sealed assembly. It carries a three year warranty. How should the acrylic face be cleaned?

Switch off at the consumer unit and let it cool, then use a soft cloth, barely damp with water. Avoid alcohol, white spirit, glass sprays and abrasive pads, as these all mark acrylic permanently.
