Description

The Sangamo Choice Plus is a wireless programmable thermostat system comprising a battery-powered wall-mounted control unit with a backlit LCD display and a separate receiver unit that switches the boiler or heating system. The two units communicate via 868MHz radio frequency with a range of up to 80m in open field conditions or 30m through typical domestic walls, removing the need for running cables between the thermostat location and the boiler.

The thermostat offers 7-day or 24-hour programming modes, allowing up to six temperature and time events per day to be scheduled. TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control modulates heating cycles to maintain target temperature without overshooting, reducing gas consumption compared to simple on/off thermostats. Optimum Start learns how long the system takes to reach temperature and fires the boiler earlier on cold mornings, while Delayed Stop allows residual heat in radiators to finish warming the room before switching off.

The control unit runs on AA batteries (supplied) and displays current room temperature, target temperature, time, and heating status on a blue-backlit LCD. The receiver unit mounts near the boiler and handles switching loads up to 16A at 240V AC, making it compatible with most UK domestic gas and oil boilers, electric heating systems, and underfloor heating relays. The temperature range is adjustable between 5°C and 35°C in 0.5°C or 1°C increments, with a frost protection mode that prevents the system dropping below 5°C when away.

The thermostat ships with a pre-programmed schedule that can be used immediately or customised to match occupancy patterns. Permanent, timed and temporary override functions allow the schedule to be adjusted without re-programming, and automatic summer/winter time change keeps the clock accurate across GMT and BST transitions.
