Description

Pagoda hangs a small black shade from a lighting track, which lets you put light exactly where it is wanted instead of washing it across a whole ceiling. The shade is 14cm across and stands a little shorter than it is wide, so it reads as neat rather than heavy overhead. An integrated LED sits inside, drawing 12.5W and giving around 950 lumens of warm white, with the driver already built in. The suspension adjusts over a generous span, from a short hang to a long one, and it runs at a fixed brightness rather than on a dimmer.

We use these most often over a kitchen island, a breakfast bar or a long worktop, where a run of heads along one track does the job of several separate fittings. The narrow spread keeps the light on the surface and out of your eyes, which suits a counter or a display shelf better than a broad, soft glow. It is one we suggest for open plan rooms where the seating and the cooking end need different treatment from the same ceiling line. Warm white keeps the tone friendly against timber, brass and painted joinery.

The black finish is applied throughout, shade and stem alike, so the fitting stays quiet against a dark track and crisp against a pale ceiling. Keep it looking even with an occasional pass of a dry duster over the outside of the shade, switching off first and letting the head lose its heat before you touch it. Fingerprints lift with a barely damp cloth and nothing stronger. It carries a three year warranty.
