Description

The Nino is a backless velvet bench with a padded oval seat in dove grey, set on an open metal frame in champagne gold. It measures 106cm long, 36cm deep and 41cm high. Slender uprights rise from an oval floor ring that mirrors the seat above, so the floor stays visible underneath and the bench takes up less visual space than a solid one of the same size. The rounded ends also leave no corners to catch a knee in a narrow bedroom or a busy walkway.

We suggest checking three measurements before deciding where it goes. For an end of bed bench, compare the 106cm length with the width of your bed frame; a bench a little shorter than the bed is wide tends to look best. In a smaller room, the 36cm depth decides how much walking space you keep between bench and wardrobe. Beside a coffee table, set your sofa's seat height against the bench's 41cm so you know how the two will line up. With no back, the bench can also stand in the middle of a room and be used from either side.

The composition is polyester 35%, sponge 30%, plywood 20% and iron 15%, which in practice means polyester velvet, sponge padding and an iron frame, with plywood in the build as well. No assembly is required, so the bench is ready to use once unpacked. Velvet has a pile that catches the light, so a velvet seat can look a touch lighter or darker from different angles or as you run a hand across it; that shading is simply how the fabric behaves. The cushion, throw, magazine and stool shown in our photographs are styling props and are not included. Dove grey and gold sit comfortably with crisp white bedding, deeper greys and other gold tones around the room.

Will it fit at the foot of my bed?

It is 106cm long and 36cm deep. Measure the width of your bed frame, then the clear floor between the end of the bed and the nearest wall or wardrobe, and check you will still have room to walk past once the bench is in place.

How high is the seat?

The seat height is 41cm, the same as the overall height, because the bench has no back. Measure the seat height of the sofa or armchairs it will sit beside, so you can see whether anyone on the bench will sit higher or lower.

What is the velvet made from?

The velvet is polyester, the only textile fibre in the composition, rather than cotton or silk. The full breakdown is polyester 35%, sponge 30%, plywood 20% and iron 15%, with the iron forming the frame.

Does it need assembling?
