Description

Small, neat and adjustable, this recessed spotlight is only 50mm across the trim, with a swivel head that tilts to aim the beam where you want it. The head moves within the trim rather than the whole housing shifting about, so the ceiling line stays tidy. The LED is built in and draws 3W, throwing a tight, clean shaft of 4000K cool white light. A driver comes with it, and the fitting is not dimmable, so it works best on a plain switch.

We reach for these where a full size downlight would be overbearing: shallow alcoves, glazed display cabinets, the treads of a staircase, a run of shelving, or several in a line washing a kitchen splashback. The tilt makes them useful for picking out artwork or a tiled wall rather than simply lighting the floor. Because the beam is tight and the colour cool, we would keep them to task and accent work, and choose something warmer for a sitting room. They suit kitchens, home offices and display joinery, where the light matters more than the fitting. Keep them to dry indoor rooms.

The body and trim are finished in white, so the fitting reads quietly against a pale ceiling and all but disappears once the light is on. It is double insulated, and it carries a three year warranty. Cleaning: kill the power at the switch, then wipe the trim with a barely damp cloth and dry it off; nothing abrasive, and no solvents anywhere near the lens. The LED is integrated, so there are no lamps to buy for it. We also stock the same spotlight in black, and in warmer white versions if cool white is not the mood you are after.
