Description

A small round spotlight with a tilting head, this one sits into a ceiling or a run of joinery and shows only a slim black trim, 50mm across. The LED behind it is integrated, drawing 3W and giving a cool white 4000K light that reads crisp rather than yellow. The beam is fairly tight, so it puts light on a chosen spot instead of washing a whole room, and the head swivels within its surround so you can angle it away from vertical. Its driver is supplied, and it is not a dimming fitting.

We use these where a full-size downlight would look heavy: display niches, the inside of a tall bookcase, a short line of them above a worktop, or picking out pictures along a stair wall. Being able to move each head means one row can be aimed at several different things, which is why we like them for shelving. The cool white output suits close work and shows colours honestly, so it is a sensible choice over a kitchen run or a desk. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; shower zones and porches want a sealed fitting instead.

Black runs across the trim and the moving head, so the fitting reads as a dark circle rather than a bright ring. Cleaning takes very little: with the power off and the fitting cold, run a dry cloth over the trim and lens, and keep polishes and solvents well away. The LED is built in, so there is no lamp to change. It carries a three year warranty. We stock the same spotlight in white, and in warmer colour temperatures in both black and white, so one range can light a whole house with the tone shifted room by room.
