Description

A small swivel head recessed spotlight, just 50mm across, made for tight, tidy pools of light rather than general brightness. The LED is built in and rated at 3W, giving a warm white 3000K light with good colour rendering, and the driver comes with it. The head tilts, so the beam can be aimed where it is wanted: along a run of shelving, across a picture, down onto a worktop. The black finish lets it recede against a dark ceiling or read as a neat detail on a pale one. It is not dimmable.

We reach for these where a full sized downlight would be too much light and too large a presence. They suit alcoves, display niches, glazed cabinets, the underside of a staircase, low hallway ceilings and the shallow soffits above a kitchen run. In a short row they wash a wall gently; used singly, one picks out an object cleanly. Because the beam is fairly narrow, we would set them closer together than you might expect for even coverage. They belong in dry indoor rooms, so hallways, sitting rooms, bedrooms and kitchens rather than a shower zone or anywhere open to the weather.

The fitting is small and light in the hand, with a shallow body and a tilting insert set behind a plain black trim. Keep it clean with the power off, a dry cloth over trim and lens, and no polishes or solvents. There is no lamp to change, since the LED and its driver are part of the fitting. It carries a three year warranty. We also stock it in white, and in this black finish with a cooler light for kitchens and workshops, so one ceiling can hold a matching set or a deliberate mix.
