Description

This is one of the smallest recessed spotlights we sell, a round white trim just 50mm across with a swivel head set into it. The head tilts within the housing, so light can be angled onto a shelf, a picture or a run of worktop rather than only dropping straight down. The LED is built in and runs at a warm 2700K, close in colour to an old filament lamp, and the driver it needs comes with it. It is not dimmable, so it is best wired to a plain switch.

We reach for these where a full size downlight would look heavy: shallow alcoves, display niches, the underside of a run of cabinets, a stair landing, or a narrow hallway where several small points of light read better than one broad one. The beam is tight and controlled, which makes it good for lighting a single object rather than a whole room, so most people use them in groups. They suit anyone who wants the light noticed and the fitting not. Wired into an ordinary household lighting circuit, it is meant for dry rooms indoors, well away from splashes and steam.

The body and trim carry a clean white finish that sits quietly against a painted ceiling, and the fitting itself weighs next to nothing. Because the LED is integral there is no lamp to swap; dust is the only thing to keep on top of, so switch the power off and wipe the visible rim with a barely damp cloth, leaving the aperture alone. It carries a three year warranty. We stock the same fitting in black, and in cooler whites if you want a crisper light, which makes it easy to keep one warmth of light through a house while changing finish where the ceiling colour changes.
