Description

Small, dark and quiet in a ceiling, this little spot measures 50mm across the trim, so it reads as a dot of light rather than a fitting. The head swivels within its housing, letting you aim the beam at a picture, a shelf or the front edge of a worktop instead of straight down. The LED is built in and draws 3W, giving a warm 2700K light with strong colour rendering, so timber, paint and skin tones hold their proper colour. There is no dimming; it runs from an ordinary on and off switch.

We reach for spots this size where a full-sized downlight would look heavy: a narrow hallway, the ceiling above a bookcase, a landing, or over a dressing table where light needs to land in one place and nowhere else. Set in a short run they give a soft, even wash; used singly they pick out a single object. It belongs in dry interior rooms, so living spaces, bedrooms and studies rather than shower zones or a covered porch.

Trim and head are finished in black alike, which stops the aperture glaring back at you from across a room. A driver comes with it and the fitting is double insulated. To clean, switch off at the wall, let the lens cool, then wipe the visible rim with a barely damp cloth and keep anything abrasive well away from the lens. The LED is integral, so there is no lamp to change over its long life. It carries a three year warranty. We stock the same spot in white as well as black, and in cooler white light where a kitchen or a work area wants a crisper tone.
