Description

The Knightsbridge M6RCD is a 13A RCD fused spur unit in a metal clad enclosure, providing Type A 30mA residual current protection for AC faults and pulsating DC currents up to 6mA. The unit is designed for fixed appliances with electronic components such as IT equipment, server racks, washing machines, and modern heating controls where standard AC-only RCDs may not trip reliably.

Suited to domestic utility rooms, workshops, server cupboards, and light commercial installations, the unit acts as both an isolation point and a safety device for equipment drawing up to 13A continuous load. The latching design means the RCD automatically resets after a mains power outage without manual intervention, making it suitable for installations where equipment must restart unattended after a power cut. The fuse carrier allows a replaceable 13A cartridge fuse to be fitted for overcurrent protection.

The 81mm square steel enclosure is powder-coated in silver-grey and provides IP20 ingress protection, suitable for dry indoor locations. The faceplate carries test and reset buttons with a dual-colour status indicator: green when the RCD is armed, red when tripped. The captive terminals accept standard UK wiring and the earth terminal is provided as standard. Trip time at 30mA is under 40ms, meeting BS EN 61008 requirements for personal protection.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between Type A and Type AC RCDs?

Type AC RCDs detect AC sinusoidal residual currents only. Type A detects AC currents plus pulsating DC currents up to 6mA, making it suitable for modern electronic loads such as IT equipment, variable-speed drives, and appliances with switch-mode power supplies that can introduce DC components into earth faults.

What does latching mean?

Latching means the RCD will automatically reset itself after a mains power outage without manual intervention. Non-latching RCDs remain tripped after a power cut and require someone to physically press the reset button before the circuit is live again. Latching types suit installations where equipment must restart unattended.

Can this be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating provides protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but no protection against water ingress. This unit is for dry indoor locations only. For outdoor or damp environments, an IP-rated weatherproof enclosure would be required.

What fuse should be fitted?

The unit accepts a standard BS 1362 13A cartridge fuse. The fuse rating should match the connected load: use a 3A fuse for loads up to 720W, a 5A fuse for loads up to 1,150W, or a 13A fuse for loads between 1,150W and 3,000W.
