Description
The Mercury is a wall light built around a stack of four champagne-tinted glass spheres fixed to a brass circular backplate, topped with a pleated beige fabric shade. The glass spheres graduate in size from largest at the backplate to smallest at the base, creating a descending cascade that sits proud of the wall by 16cm. The E27 lampholder inside the shade accepts a standard screw bulb up to 20W (sold separately), with the pleated fabric diffusing the light output across a 280mm-wide footprint.
Designed for living rooms, hallways and bedrooms where soft wall-mounted accent lighting is preferred over downlights or pendants, the Mercury works in traditional, transitional and vintage-inspired interiors. The 39cm height suits installation at eye level in a hallway or flanking a fireplace, chimney breast or headboard. The pleated beige shade softens the light cone and prevents glare when viewed from the side, making it suitable for reading corners or bedside positions where direct light would be uncomfortable.
The champagne glass finish on the spheres gives a warm honey tone under natural daylight and glows amber when the bulb is lit. The brass backplate and sphere caps match warm metallics and pair comfortably with natural oak, walnut and stone finishes. At 1.7kg the fitting requires a solid wall fixing into masonry or a stud, not plasterboard alone. The IP20 rating restricts it to dry indoor areas — it cannot be used in bathrooms or outdoor covered positions.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The Mercury takes a standard E27 screw bulb up to 20W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair it with a warm-white LED bulb between 5-8W and 2700K-3000K for ambient lighting.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
No. The IP20 rating means it is suitable only for dry indoor areas. It cannot be installed in bathrooms, wet rooms or outdoor covered positions.
What wall fixing is needed?
At 1.7kg the fitting requires a solid fixing into masonry or a wall stud. Use appropriate wall plugs and screws rated for the weight. It should not be fixed to plasterboard alone without stud or cavity anchor support.
Is the shade replaceable?
The pleated beige shade is a fitted component designed specifically for the Mercury. Replacement shades are not sold separately by Schuller, so if the shade is damaged the entire fitting would need replacing.
