Description

The Mercury T160mA slow blow fuse is a 5 x 20mm glass tube cartridge fuse rated at 160 milliamps and 250V, designed for low-current protection in precision electronic and audio equipment. The time-delay characteristic allows the fuse to tolerate brief inrush currents during power-on without blowing, then protect against sustained overcurrent faults.

Used in professional audio amplifiers, studio monitoring equipment, mixing desks, effects units, and other sensitive electronics where a standard fast-blow fuse would nuisance-trip on startup surge, the slow blow rating provides circuit protection without false triggering. The 5 x 20mm format fits standard cartridge fuse holders in mains input stages and power supply sections across European and international audio and electronic devices.

The glass tube construction allows visual inspection of the internal fusible element — a blown fuse shows a visible break in the thin wire element inside the tube. The 160mA rating suits low-power signal-processing equipment and devices drawing less than 40W on 250V mains. IEC approval confirms compliance with international safety standards for fuse performance and rating.

Frequently Asked

What does 'slow blow' mean?

A slow blow (time-delay) fuse tolerates brief overcurrent conditions such as inrush surge when equipment powers on, but will blow if the overcurrent is sustained for more than a fraction of a second. This prevents nuisance blowing in devices with high startup current draw.

What devices use 160mA fuses?

Low-current audio equipment, studio monitoring amplifiers, effects processors, mixers, and precision electronic devices drawing less than 40W on 250V mains typically use 160mA-rated fuses in their power supply protection stages.

Are these fuses interchangeable with fast-blow fuses?

Physically they fit the same 5 x 20mm fuse holders, but functionally they are not interchangeable. Replacing a slow blow fuse with a fast blow fuse may result in nuisance blowing during power-on. Always replace with the same rating and type specified by the equipment manufacturer.

How can I tell if the fuse has blown?

The glass tube construction allows visual inspection. A blown fuse will show a visible break in the thin internal wire element, and often a dark discolouration or carbon deposit on the inside of the glass.
