Description

The Mercury rubber UK mains plug is a 13A fused three-pin plug built around an impact-resistant polypropylene and rubber shell with a nylon base. The body is white, the pins are brass, and the internal cord grip is a quick-fit design that reduces installation time compared to screw-tightened clamp plates. The 13A fuse is user-replaceable and sits inside the live pin housing.

Designed for workshop, garage, industrial and commercial installations where the plug may be subjected to drops, knocks or cable strain, the rubber-reinforced shell absorbs impact better than standard ABS plugs. The nylon base resists cracking under foot traffic and the quick-fit cord grip secures cable diameters from 5mm to 9mm without requiring a screwdriver. The plug fits standard UK BS 1363 sockets and complies with BS 1363 approval for mains use up to 230V.

The white finish suits visible installations in light-coloured or clinical environments where a black plug would stand out. The plug accepts cable cores up to 2.5mm² and is commonly paired with extension leads, power tools, workshop equipment and heavy-duty appliances. The replaceable 13A fuse provides overload protection for connected devices drawing up to 3,120W at 240V.

Frequently Asked

What cable size does the quick-fit cord grip accept?

The cord grip accepts cable outer diameters from 5mm to 9mm, with core sizes up to 2.5mm². The grip clamps the cable sheath without requiring a screwdriver, making installation faster than traditional screw-tightened clamps.

Is the fuse replaceable?

Yes. The 13A fuse sits inside the live pin housing and can be removed and replaced by opening the fuse compartment on the base of the plug. Use only BS 1362 fuses rated at 13A or lower depending on the connected appliance load.

What makes this plug suitable for workshops?

The impact-resistant polypropylene and rubber shell absorbs drops and knocks better than standard ABS plugs, and the nylon base resists cracking if stepped on. The quick-fit cord grip also reduces installation time when wiring multiple extension leads or tools.

Is this plug approved for mains use in the UK?

Yes. The plug carries BS 1363 approval, which is the UK standard for mains plugs and socket outlets rated at 13A and 230V.
