Description

The Maon is a 50cm diameter pendant light with a teardrop-shaped shade woven from black braided paper rope on a concealed metal frame, suspended from a matt black ceiling rose. The shade houses a single E27 bulb fitting (10W LED bulb included) that illuminates the interior of the weave, creating a pattern of light and shadow across surrounding walls and ceilings.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands, bedroom pendant positions and double-height entrance halls, the Maon suits ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards thanks to its adjustable 55-250cm drop. The woven paper rope construction keeps the weight down to 1.9kg despite the 50cm diameter, allowing the pendant to be hung from standard UK ceiling roses without additional support. The open weave permits air circulation around the bulb, while the matt black finish on the ceiling rose, cable and frame blends into the shadow pattern created by the shade.

The braided paper rope is wrapped tightly at the top of the shade and becomes looser towards the base, creating a gradient of light density — more concentrated illumination downwards, softer ambient scatter upwards. The teardrop silhouette has a flatter profile than a sphere, making it more compact in taller rooms where a true sphere might feel overly dominant. The black finish pairs with natural wood furniture, white walls, concrete finishes and warm-toned textiles across minimalist, Japandi, coastal and industrial interiors.

From Schuller, Spain. The pendant arrives with a 10W E27 LED bulb fitted. The braided paper rope is lightweight and stable under normal indoor conditions, but should not be exposed to moisture or direct outdoor weather.

Does the Maon come with a bulb?

Yes. The pendant includes a 10W E27 LED bulb fitted at time of despatch. The bulb produces 900lm output and is rated at energy class F. Replacement bulbs are standard E27 fittings up to 40W maximum.

What ceiling height does it need?

The drop is adjustable between 55cm and 250cm. For a dining table or kitchen island the shade typically hangs 700-800mm above the surface, which works in rooms with 2.4m or higher ceilings. The extended maximum drop of 250cm makes the Maon suitable for double-height entrance halls and stairwells.

Is the woven shade durable?

The braided paper rope is tightly wrapped around a metal frame and stable under normal indoor use. The material should not be exposed to moisture, steam or direct outdoor weather. Dust can be removed with a soft brush or low-pressure vacuum attachment.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. The pendant carries an IP20 rating, which means it is suitable only for dry indoor environments. It should not be installed in bathrooms, outdoor areas or other locations where it could be exposed to moisture.
