Description

A small ball head on a slender drop, hung from the Magneto track rather than a fixed ceiling point, so it can be slid along the run and repositioned later if the furniture below moves. The head is 55mm across and the LED inside it is integrated, giving 560 lumens of warm white from 7W with a narrow beam that keeps the light on the surface below rather than washing it around the room. The driver sits inside, and it is not a dimming fitting.

We reach for these over an island or a breakfast bar, where a run of them puts pooled light along a worktop without the bulk of larger glass shades. The drop adjusts within a set range, so the same fitting can hang tight to the ceiling in a room with low headroom or sit lower over a table. The tight beam and the warm tone suit display as well: open shelving, a bar back, a row of pictures. Since the position is decided on the track itself, it suits a kitchen where the final layout is still being worked out.

Head and drop are black throughout, which reads as a quiet dark line rather than something asking to be looked at, and it keeps company with the black track, joints and end caps we stock for the same system. Dark finishes show dust, so give the ball a wipe with a dry cloth whenever you clean the worktop underneath, power off first. Keep it to dry rooms indoors. It carries a three year warranty. The LED is built in, so there is no lamp to swap, and the track sections and corner joints in the range let a single run turn along a wall or return above a peninsula.

Lamps are not a consideration here, as the light source is part of the head.
