The Lucca is a sapphire blue velvet armchair built as one rounded shape rather than a back with two arms attached: the arms and back run at the same height and wrap round the seat in a continuous curve. It stands on slim, tapered metal legs that lift the body clear of the floor and keep the outline light. The chair measures 80cm wide, 72cm deep and 70cm high, and the seat is 43cm from the floor.

It works as extra seating around a coffee table, angled in towards the sofa, or on its own as a bedroom chair, by a window or in a corner that needs somewhere to sit. It suits a room where a second sofa would be too much and a stool too little. To have it sit level with your existing seating, measure from the floor to the top of your sofa's seat: when that figure is close to 43cm, the two will line up. We would set it a little apart rather than push it tight against other furniture, so the rounded back has room to be seen.

Velvet has a short, dense pile that feels soft under the hand and catches the light differently depending on the direction you look at it, so the sapphire blue reads deeper from some angles and brighter from others as you move around the room. The chair is made up of 30% polyester, 30% sponge, 15% iron, 15% pine wood and 10% plywood, and partial assembly is required before it is ready to use, so set aside a little time to put it together. It sits well against white, grey or warm neutral walls, where the blue has space to show.
