Lucca Biscuit Velvet & Iron Sofa - 142cm

Our Lucca sofa is upholstered in Biscuit velvet, and its shape is what sets it apart: the rounded arms rise to the full 70cm height of the back and curve into it, so the whole piece reads as one smooth, continuous outline. It measures 142cm wide and 70cm deep, and stands on slim, tapered metal legs that lift the body clear of the floor. The seat is a single surface running 109cm between the arms, 48cm deep and 43cm from the floor.

At 142cm wide, it works where a full-size sofa would crowd the room: in a bay window, a bedroom, a study or a snug, or beside a larger sofa as extra seating in the living room. We'd treat it as occasional seating. The inside of the back stands 30cm above the seat, enough to lean against as you sit upright but not to rest your head on, so it suits conversation and reading more than settling in for a long film. Biscuit sits easily against white, cream or soft grey walls, and the open space beneath the body stops it looking heavy in a smaller room.

The sofa's composition includes velvet, foam, plywood, poplar wood and iron. Plywood is made from thin wood veneers glued with the grain running in alternate directions, which makes it strong for its weight and resistant to splitting. Velvet has a short, dense pile that catches the light, so its colour shifts a little in tone as you move around the room. Piping traces the edges of the arms and sharpens that curved outline. Partial assembly is required, and a user guide is included. Finish it with a single cushion or a folded throw in a deeper shade, such as rust or forest green, and let the shape do the work.

Will it fit in a bay window or a small room?

It measures 142cm wide, 70cm deep and 70cm high, and the arms stand as tall as the back. Mark that footprint on the floor with masking tape, leave space to walk past it, and check the 70cm height against any window sill it will sit in front of.

How high is the seat?

The seat sits 43cm from the floor and is 48cm deep and 109cm wide between the arms. If it is joining an existing sofa or armchairs, measure their seat heights too, because seating at a similar height looks like a planned group rather than a set of odd pieces.

Can I rest my head on the back?

For most adults, no. The inside of the back rises 30cm above the seat, which gives you something to lean against while you sit upright but stops below head height. That is why we would treat it as occasional seating rather than somewhere to lounge all evening.

What is it made from?

The upholstery is velvet and the legs are metal. The composition is given as velvet 35%, foam 25%, iron 10%, plywood 15% and poplar wood 10%, so foam and wood together make up half of it.

Yes, partial assembly is required, and a user guide is included. Clear a patch of floor a little larger than its 142 by 70cm footprint before you start, so you have room to work around it.
