The Layla cushion puts a single beaded bee at its centre, worked in warm amber and gold thread against a deep teal velvet ground. The velvet is polyester, front and back, which gives the pile its even sheen and keeps the colour saturated under changing light. It measures 50 x 50cm, a generous square that holds its shape on a sofa or a bed rather than collapsing into the corner, and the broad flat border framing the design is the wide Oxford edge that lifts the whole piece clear of the seam.
