The Halvessa is a cordless table lamp: a round alabaster globe resting on a slim white cylindrical base, made of alabaster and iron. Lit, the globe glows a soft cream, with grey and brown veining running through it. It comes in two sizes, 20cm tall and 24cm tall, and both are 12cm across. Each size has the same integrated LED, 1.3W and 150 lumens, so there is no bulb to buy or change. The light is a warm 3000K with a CRI of 90+, so food, faces and fabrics keep their true colours.

Because it runs on a rechargeable battery, it goes wherever there is no socket: the middle of a dining table, a bedside, a bookshelf or a hall console. It is rated IP45, so it suits outdoor use too, on a garden table or a terrace on a summer evening. The maker states it can be used both indoors and outdoors. A full charge gives up to 8 hours of light, enough for a long dinner. The touch dimmer takes it down to a low glow or up to a brighter pool of light. We like it for anyone who entertains, and for rooms where a trailing flex would spoil the look.

The lamp is built from alabaster and iron, and its finish is white, a soft match for the cream of the lit globe. The lithium polymer battery takes 5 hours to charge. It comes without a charger or USB cable, which are sold separately: the Single USB Lamp Charger with 1.5m Cable charges one lamp, and the 8 Port USB Lamp Charger with 1.5m Cables charges up to eight at once. For styling, we would set the 20cm and 24cm sizes side by side so the two globes sit at different heights, or run several down a long table for supper outside.
