Description

Clear glass, pressed with a corrugated effect that breaks the light into fine vertical lines as it passes through. The form is a shallow funnel bell, wide at the mouth and drawn in towards the top, 20cm across and sitting low rather than deep. Because the glass is clear you see the lamp within it, which is much of the appeal: the shape reads as a bright ring rather than a solid shade.

It suits a pendant over a kitchen island, a row of two or three above a breakfast bar, or a single drop beside a favourite chair. Ribbed clear glass throws a little sparkle onto worktops and tiled walls, so it works as hard in a kitchen as it does over a dining table. We would put a golf ball LED lamp in the host fitting, up to 20W, and pick a warm one where people eat. A clear lamp will show its filament plainly through the glass, so choose according to how much of that you want on view.

The shade is glass throughout, with the corrugation formed in the material rather than applied to it, so there is no surface coating to wear away. Clean it with a cloth wrung out in warm soapy water and dry it off before the light goes back on, as clear glass shows fingerprints and dust far sooner than an opaque shade will. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from splashes and steam. It carries a one year warranty.
