Description

A recessed spot that pulls back into the ceiling void and swivels, so the beam can be aimed without a body sitting proud of the ceiling line. The integrated LED draws 12W and gives a warm 2700K white, gentle in a living room and steady from the moment it strikes. Trim and inner cup are both black, which sinks the aperture into shadow and keeps glare away when you look up. It is not a dimming fitting, so a plain switch suits it best, and the driver is supplied with it.

We reach for this one where a fixed downlight would only wash the floor: over a worktop, along a run of shelving, on a stone chimney breast or a picture wall. The swivel lets you correct the aim later, once the furniture has settled. Cut in at 95mm, it works just as well as general light in hallways, landings and bedrooms, and the warm tone sits happily with plaster, oak and brass. We would keep it to dry rooms; a shower zone or a covered porch wants a fitting rated for moisture.

The black finish is carried across the visible trim and the tilting cup, so the fitting reads as one piece from below. Retracting the head into the recess hides most of the hardware and leaves a small, quiet circle on the ceiling. For care, take a dry cloth to the trim when the room gets a clean, and switch the circuit off before wiping the lens; there is nothing else to do. It carries a three year warranty.
