Description

The head here sits inside the housing and pulls out and tilts, so one fitting can sit close to the ceiling line at first and then be aimed at a wall when the room changes. Light comes from an integrated LED running at 7W, tuned to a warm 2700K that keeps timber, plaster and paint looking soft rather than clinical. The driver is supplied with it, so there is nothing further to source on the electrical side. It is non-dimmable, wired to an ordinary switched circuit, and the output holds steady.

We reach for a retractable head like this where a fixed downlight would only wash the floor: over a run of worktop, above a reading chair, or spaced along a hallway to graze a picture wall. The beam is on the tighter side, so it picks out one thing at a time rather than filling a whole room, and a sensibly spaced line of them gives a kitchen or a landing real direction. The 75mm cut-out suits ceilings where a wider aperture would look crowded. Dry indoor rooms are its place, and we would keep it away from steam and splashing.

The visible trim is matt white, with the inner head in black so the source reads as a shadow rather than a bright ring when you glance up. It carries a three year warranty. Wipe the trim with a barely damp cloth once the fitting is off and cool, and keep polishes and solvents off the finish; the LED is integral, so there is no lamp to change over its life.
