Description

A compact square downlight with a swivelling head, so the beam can be angled off the vertical towards a worktop, a shelf or a picture rather than straight down. The face is matt white and sits close to the ceiling line, with a 70mm cut-out putting it among the smaller apertures in this range. The COB LED behind the aperture is integrated and runs at 7W, giving a crisp 4000K cool white with a fairly tight beam, so light lands where it is aimed instead of washing the whole room. The driver comes with it and the output is fixed rather than dimmable.

We reach for this one in kitchens, utility rooms, hallways and landings, and in home offices where a cooler light keeps a desk feeling awake. Run several in a line and you get even coverage; angle a few of them and you get accents on cabinet fronts, a run of open shelving or a stairwell wall. The cool white tone suits rooms where you are working rather than winding down, so we would choose the warmer version of the same fitting for a bedroom or a snug. It is intended for dry indoor ceilings, not shower zones, porches or anywhere exposed to weather.

The body is double insulated and the visible trim carries a flat white paint finish that disappears against most ceiling emulsion. To clean it, turn the circuit off, let the fitting go cold and pass a dry microfibre cloth over the trim and the swivelling face; skip sprays and solvents, which mark matt paint. The LED is built in, so there is no lamp to change and nothing to buy alongside it. It carries a three year warranty. In this range the same square face is also offered in a warm white, and there are round versions in this size along with a larger round option if you want a bigger aperture elsewhere in the same house.
