Description

Decoded from the BS-1 article code, this is a glow starter for legacy fluorescent fittings rated across the 4 to 22W tube range. It plugs into the starter holder on a switch-start fluorescent luminaire and provides the initial pulse that strikes the tube, after which the circuit settles to its running state. The compact white plastic body measures just Ø20.5 by 39 mm, so it drops straight into a standard starter socket. It is a passive replacement part for keeping an existing fluorescent fitting in service, not a lit component in its own right.

When a fluorescent tube flickers on start-up or fails to strike, the starter is usually the first part to replace. This unit suits batten, surface and recessed fluorescent fittings using 4W up to 22W tubes. We also stock LED tubes and LED battens for those looking to retire fluorescent gear and move to a maintenance-light upgrade.

Frequently Asked

What fittings does this starter fit?

It suits switch-start fluorescent fittings using tubes rated from 4W to 22W. The compact Ø20.5 by 39 mm body plugs into a standard starter holder.

What does a fluorescent starter do?

It provides the initial pulse that strikes the fluorescent tube when the fitting is switched on. Once the tube lights, the starter opens and the lamp runs normally.

My tube keeps flickering on start-up, is this the part I need?

Flickering, slow striking or repeated attempts to light are classic signs of a worn starter. Replacing it is usually the quickest fix before considering the tube or ballast.

Can I use this with an LED tube?

This is a starter for legacy fluorescent tubes only. Many LED tubes require their own LED starter or a rewire, so check the LED tube's instructions; we stock LED tubes and battens if you are upgrading.
