Description

The FireNova is a fire-rated tilt downlight with a polished chrome bezel, an open-back pressed steel housing and a 20° tilt mechanism that allows the GU10 lamp (sold separately) to be angled for directional task or accent lighting. The fitting is fire-tested to 30, 60 and 90 minutes on solid wood joists and 30 minutes on metal web joists and I-joists, meeting UK Building Regulations for fire-rated recessed lighting installations.

Designed for residential and commercial ceilings where directional lighting is needed without compromising fire safety, the FireNova suits kitchens, bathrooms (IP20-rated, suitable for zones outside splash areas), hallways, retail displays and offices. The 75mm cut-out fits standard ceiling voids with a minimum 120mm clearance above the plasterboard. The open-back design allows heat to dissipate into the void, extending lamp life compared to closed-back downlights.

Installation uses push-fit terminals with loop-in/loop-out wiring capability, meaning multiple downlights can be daisy-chained on a single circuit without needing individual junction boxes. The polished chrome finish provides a high-gloss reflective bezel that suits contemporary and modern interiors. The fitting accepts any GU10 LED, halogen or low-energy lamp up to 7W (most installers use 4-6W LED), with dimmer compatibility depending on the bulb chosen. The Class II rating means no earth connection is required.

The FireNova carries a 5-year guarantee and can be made IC-rated (insulation contact) when paired with Knightsbridge's separate insulation bridge accessory (sold separately), allowing insulation to be laid directly over the fitting without creating a cold spot or fire hazard.

What bulb does the FireNova take?

The fitting takes a GU10 bulb up to 7W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users install a 4-6W GU10 LED in warm white (2700K-3000K) for general lighting or cool white (4000K) for task lighting in kitchens and offices.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

The FireNova carries an IP20 rating, which is suitable for bathroom zones outside the immediate shower or bath splash areas (typically Zone 3 and beyond, or anywhere more than 600mm from the bath/shower edge). For zones requiring IP44 or IP65, consider Knightsbridge's sealed bathroom downlight range instead.

What does the 20° tilt allow?

The lamp can be angled up to 20° from vertical in any direction once installed. This allows light to be aimed at a wall, worktop, display shelf or specific area rather than straight down, making the FireNova useful for accent lighting or task lighting where fixed-direction downlights would miss the target.

How is insulation handled above the fitting?

The open-back design allows heat to dissipate but does require a 120mm clear void above the fitting. For installations where insulation must cover the entire ceiling void, pair the FireNova with Knightsbridge's insulation bridge accessory (sold separately), which creates an IC-rated (insulation contact) enclosure around the fitting.
