Description

The Knightsbridge FireNova is a fire-rated tilt downlight with an antique brass pressed steel bezel, a 20° tilt mechanism and an open-back design that allows ceiling void airflow around the GU10 lamp fitting. The downlight provides 30/60/90 minute fire protection when installed into solid wood joists, or 30 minutes on metal web joists and I-joists, meeting UK building regulations for fire-rated ceiling penetrations.

Designed for residential refurbishment, heritage properties and hospitality projects where period aesthetics are needed alongside modern fire safety, the FireNova sits flush to the ceiling with a 3mm projection and a 75mm cut-out diameter. The open-back construction eliminates the need for a sealed housing, reducing heat build-up around the lamp and extending GU10 LED lifespan. Push-fit loop-in/loop-out terminals allow daisy-chain wiring without terminal blocks.

The antique brass finish shows directional brushing with a deliberately aged patina that pairs with traditional brass switches, sockets and period door furniture. The 20° tilt allows the beam to be angled towards artwork, architectural features or the edge of a room rather than straight downward. The fitting accepts any standard GU10 LED or halogen lamp up to 7W (sold separately), with dimming capability dependent on the chosen lamp.

The FireNova can be installed under solid insulation when paired with Knightsbridge's FireNova insulation bridge accessory (sold separately), which maintains the fire rating while allowing loft insulation to sit over the downlight. Magnetic bezels in other finishes (polished chrome, brushed chrome, white, black) are available separately, allowing the finish to be changed without rewiring.

What ceiling void depth is required?

The downlight needs a minimum 120mm void depth from the ceiling surface to the top of the joist or ceiling structure. The recessed depth of the fitting itself is 67mm, but the void requirement accounts for wiring clearance and fire protection integrity.

Does it come with a GU10 bulb?

No. The fitting accepts any standard GU10 LED or halogen lamp up to 7W maximum. Most users pair this with a 5-6W warm white LED GU10 at 2700K-3000K for residential applications.

Is it dimmable?

Dimming capability depends on the GU10 lamp you choose. The fitting itself supports dimmable lamps when paired with a compatible trailing-edge dimmer. Check the lamp packaging for dimmer compatibility before purchasing.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the FireNova is suitable for general indoor use but not for bathroom zones requiring IP65 (Zone 1/2). For bathrooms, Knightsbridge produces IP65-rated fire-rated downlights in similar finishes.
