Description
The Erinus is a compact recessed LED step light built to wash a soft glow across indoor stairs, treads and skirting lines. It draws 1.5W on a 12V DC supply and puts out 30 lumens at a warm 3000K, so the effect is a low, comfortable marker rather than a bright source. The square front measures 75 by 75 mm and the body is just 16 mm deep, giving a near-flush finish once set into the wall. American buyers will recognise this style as a recessed stair light, the small wall-set fitting used to pick out steps after dark.
Indoor staircases are the natural home for this fitting, along with landings, hallway skirting runs and the side walls of split-level living spaces. Rather than lighting a whole room, it grazes the surface in front of it, marking the edge of each tread and guiding the foot at low level. A short row set at consistent heights down a flight gives a clean, even line of light, and because the output is modest and warm it suits late-evening use without glare. It is a dry indoor fitting only, so keep it clear of bathrooms, porches and any outdoor or damp position.
The square housing is moulded in plastic with a black finish that sits discreetly against painted or papered walls. It runs on 12V DC, so a suitable low-voltage transformer is needed to drive it from the mains, and several can be wired from one supply along a stair run. The fitting is recessed into the wall, set into a prepared opening so the face finishes close to flush, and it is rated IP20 for protected indoor locations. It is not dimmable and is rated for around 30,000 hours of life. The wider Erinus range includes further low-level step and marker fittings to match across a scheme.

Frequently Asked
Does this step light need a transformer?
Yes. It runs on 12V DC rather than mains voltage, so a compatible low-voltage transformer or driver is required to power it. Several Erinus fittings can be run from a single supply along the same stair run, provided the transformer is rated for the combined load.
Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20, which means it is for dry indoor use only. Keep it out of bathrooms, porches, garages and any outdoor or damp location, and reserve it for protected interior walls such as staircases and hallways.
How is it installed?
It is recessed into the wall, set into a prepared opening so the 75 by 75 mm face finishes close to flush. The shallow 16 mm body keeps the depth needed to a minimum, which helps when fitting into thinner stud walls along a flight of stairs.
How should the fitting be cleaned?
Wipe the black face gently with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth to lift dust and marks. Avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners, which can dull the plastic, and switch the supply off before wiping so the surface can be cleaned safely.
