Description

This is a round globe lamp, 95mm across, made to be looked at as much as looked through. The frosted outer softens the output so the diodes inside do not read as bright points, and the light leaves it in a wide arc rather than a narrow cone. It draws 6.5W and gives a cool white light, crisp and clean against the yellower cast of a warm white lamp. It is not dimmable, so it wants a plain on-off switch rather than a trailing edge dimmer.

We reach for a globe like this where the lamp itself is on show: a bare flex pendant, an open shade, a cage fitting, or a mirror surround with exposed holders. The frosting earns its keep in those spots, since a clear lamp at eye level tends to glare. Cool white suits rooms where you want the light to read as daylight rather than candlelight, so kitchens, utility rooms, home offices and workshops. It is a lamp for dry rooms indoors, kept clear of splashes and weather.

The finish is frosted over the whole of the globe, with a screw cap at the base, and the shape is the full traditional sphere rather than the squatter sort. To clean it, switch off, let it go cold, then dust the frosting with a dry lint-free cloth; nothing wet, and no cleaning spray near the cap. It carries a two year warranty. We stock the same globe in warm white if you would rather a softer light, along with a brighter warm white version for larger rooms, and the range carries on through smaller capsule lamps and GX53 discs for fittings that take them. Fittings are sold separately.
