Description

A clear candle lamp with the small screw fitting, made to sit where the lamp itself is on show. It draws 4W and gives back 470 lumens, so it stands in for a small traditional candle bulb without the heat or the running cost. The colour is a warm white at 2700K, the softer end of the scale, and light leaves it in all directions rather than in a single cone. It is not dimmable, so it wants a plain on-off switch.

This is the shape chandeliers, candelabra fittings and multi-arm wall lights are built around, and it suits table lamps with small shades just as well, along with shallow pendants where a longer lamp would show below the rim. We reach for it in hallways, on landings and over dining tables, anywhere several lamps share the work and each one has to look right on its own. The warm tone flatters wood, brass and painted plaster, and holds up well in a room lit mainly in the evening. We keep it as an everyday choice rather than something saved for one special fitting.

The clear finish leaves the candle outline and the taper of the tip in view, which is the point of it in an open fitting; if you would rather the light source disappeared, an opal lamp is the better answer. To clean it, switch off, let it cool in the fitting, then wipe the body with a dry cloth; nothing wet, and no polish. It carries a five year warranty.
