Description
The Cotswold Lane is a 406mm-tall outdoor wall lantern with two E14 bulb fittings behind clear bevelled glass panels set in a black powder-coated aluminium frame. The ribbed conical canopy and architectural moulding at the top of each glazed panel reference the design of Victorian and Edwardian gas lamps, while the IP44 rating makes the fitting suitable for UK outdoor installation on walls, porches and covered terraces.
Designed for mounting either side of front doors, on garage walls, or along covered pathways, the Cotswold Lane provides directional light through the four clear glass faces while the solid metal back plate reflects light forward onto the immediate area below and in front of the fitting. The 152mm projection and 241mm width suit standard brick walls and rendered facades without overwhelming domestic-scale architecture. The two-bulb configuration delivers enough output for security lighting when paired with 40-60W equivalent LED candle bulbs.
The black finish is applied over die-cast aluminium, giving the fitting weather resistance without the weight and maintenance requirements of traditional cast iron. The bevelled edges on each glass panel catch and refract light from the bulbs, creating a subtle prismatic effect visible at dusk and after dark. The ribbed canopy detail continues the vertical line from the finial through the body of the lantern, reinforcing the proportions borrowed from period street lighting.
Installation requires fixing to a wall with appropriate masonry or timber fixings and connection to mains supply behind the back plate. The IP44 rating protects against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashing from any direction, making the fitting suitable for exposed walls and covered areas but not for fully unsheltered positions subject to heavy rain or water jets.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does it take?
The Cotswold Lane takes two E14 small Edison screw candle bulbs, each up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use 4-6W LED candle bulbs in warm white (2700K) to replicate the appearance of gas lamp flame light.
Can it be used in exposed positions?
The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, under eaves and on walls with some overhead shelter. For fully exposed positions subject to driving rain or direct water jets, a higher IP rating (IP54 or IP65) would be more appropriate.
Is the black finish prone to fading?
The black powder-coated finish on the aluminium frame is UV-stable and designed for outdoor use. Normal weathering may occur over years of exposure, but the coating resists the rapid fading and chalking seen on lower-grade painted finishes.
What style of architecture does it suit?
The Victorian gas lamp styling pairs well with period brick and rendered facades, cottage-style properties, Georgian and Edwardian houses, and contemporary builds looking to reference traditional forms. The 406mm height and restrained detailing avoid the scale issues that can occur with oversized decorative lanterns on smaller domestic walls.
