Description

Square where most spotlights are round, this one keeps its lines plain: an even-sided body in matt white with a single light source set into the face. The LED and its driver are built in, drawing 12W and giving roughly 1040 lumens of warm white, a soft light with a little warmth in it rather than anything clinical. The beam is narrow and directional, so it lands light on a surface instead of spreading it thinly across a room.

We reach for a spotlight like this when the light has a job to do: washing a worktop, picking out a run of shelves, sitting above a picture or a chimney breast. Along a hallway ceiling a short run gives pools of light and a bit of rhythm, and in a study it puts brightness where the work is without lifting the whole room. It is not dimmable, so pair it with a plain switch and treat it as a fixed level of light. Warm white suits living rooms, bedrooms and landings best.

The housing is finished in a flat matt white that catches very little light itself, which helps it sit quietly against a pale ceiling. Dust with a dry cloth as part of your usual round, and for marks use a barely damp one with the power off and the body cool to the touch. Since the LED is integral, there is nothing to unclip or replace. It carries a three year warranty. Keep it indoors and away from splashes and steam. If a square profile is not what you are after, we stock the same fitting in a round shape, and both shapes come in a cooler white if you want a crisper light over a worktop.
