Description

The Carmel is a 61x89cm oval wall mirror framed by a continuous border of turned mango wood spheres connected by short cylindrical sections, all cut from solid mango wood and finished in a dark stain that brings out the natural grain variation. The bobble frame projects 6cm from the wall when mounted, creating a dimensional edge around the central mirror glass.

Designed for portrait-orientation hanging only, the Carmel suits hallway entryways, above console tables, bedroom dressing areas, and bathroom walls where a full-length mirror is not needed but a vertically-proportioned reflection is useful. The 61cm width makes it narrow enough for most hallways while the 89cm height provides head-to-waist coverage when mounted at typical eye level. The 8.25kg weight requires secure wall fixings into masonry or timber studs rather than plasterboard alone.

The mango wood bobbles show slight tonal variation across the frame depending on which section of the timber each sphere was turned from, giving the mirror a handcrafted appearance rather than industrial uniformity. The dark stain sits between chocolate brown and espresso, with warmer chestnut tones showing through on the raised sections of each sphere where the stain has been lightly sanded back during finishing. The mirror glass itself is standard float glass with no bevel or antiquing.

Frequently Asked

Can the mirror be hung horizontally?

No. The Carmel is designed for portrait orientation only. The wall fixings and weight distribution are configured for vertical hanging, and attempting horizontal mounting may stress the frame.

What wall fixings are needed?

At 8.25kg, the mirror requires secure fixings into masonry (using wall plugs and screws) or timber studs. Plasterboard-only fixings are not sufficient. Use two fixings spaced to match the hanging hardware on the mirror's reverse.

How is the wood frame cleaned?

Wipe the mango wood bobbles with a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. For marks on the wood, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid soaking the timber or using spray cleaners that may damage the stain finish. Clean the mirror glass with standard glass cleaner, taking care not to let liquid pool around the wood-to-glass join.

Does the wood colour vary between mirrors?

Yes. Each bobble is turned from natural mango wood, so grain pattern and the way the dark stain takes to the timber varies slightly between individual mirrors. This is characteristic of solid wood furniture rather than a defect.
