Description

A small round recessed downlight with a plain matt white trim, shallow in body and flat against the ceiling line once set in. The LED is built in and rated at 6W, giving a neutral 4000K light with a wide, even spread rather than a tight spot, so a run of them washes a ceiling fairly evenly instead of leaving scallops. Output is around 540 lumens each, and the control gear comes with it. It is not a dimming fitting, so it is best wired to a straightforward on-off switch.

We reach for this size where the ceiling is busy and a bigger aperture would look heavy: hallways, landings, kitchens, utility rooms, cloakrooms, home offices and the shallow ceilings of loft conversions. Because it is a dry-room fitting, keep it away from shower and bath zones and out of open porches. In a kitchen, several across the working side of the room and a couple over the table gives you cool, clean light for chopping and reading labels; in a hallway, a line of three or four is usually plenty.

The trim is finished in a low-sheen white that sits happily against most painted ceilings without drawing the eye, and the flat face keeps dust off better than a stepped bezel. To clean, isolate the circuit at the wall switch, then run a dry microfibre cloth over the trim and lens; nothing wet, and no cream cleaners, as they will dull the matt surface. It carries a three year warranty.
