Description
This is the Braywick Animal Velvet Cushion, a printed velvet square carrying a pair of cranes at its centre. The birds stand head to head against a black ground, drawn in soft greys with amber beaks, and the whole scene is framed by a border of leaves, small white flowers and an art nouveau vine running around the edge. It is made from polyester velvet, printed on the face and finished with a plain sage-green velvet reverse, so the cushion works whether the print or the quieter back is showing. The cover measures 43 x 43cm, the standard square size that suits most scatter arrangements.
A print like this earns its place as a focal cushion rather than a filler. It sits well on a grey or neutral sofa, where the dark ground and the green border lift the seating without shouting, and it pairs naturally with panelled walls in deeper greens and with other botanical or bird prints. Because the reverse is a solid sage, you can turn one or two in a group to break up a busy row of patterns. Velvet also catches the light differently as you move past it, giving the pile a shift in tone that flat cotton does not have.
The face is a printed polyester velvet, which holds colour well and gives that short, dense pile you can feel under the hand. The reverse is plain velvet in the same family of green as the border. Being polyester, the fabric is hard-wearing and resists fading, which matters on a cushion that will live in daylight on a sofa. We would smooth the pile by hand after use to keep the print reading clearly, and rotate it with plainer cushions so the crane design stays the piece your eye goes to first.

Frequently Asked
What is the cushion made from?
The cover is 100% polyester velvet, printed on the front with a plain velvet reverse. Polyester velvet gives a dense, soft pile and holds its printed colour well.
What does the reverse look like?
The back is a plain sage-green velvet with no print, so you can show either the crane design or the quieter solid side depending on how you style it.
How big is the cushion?
The cover measures 43 x 43cm, a standard square scatter size that fits most sofas, armchairs and beds without looking out of scale.
Is a filler pad included?
The record lists the cover only, so we cannot confirm a pad is supplied. A 43 x 43cm insert is the size to buy if you need one.
How should I keep the pile looking its best?
Smooth the velvet pile by hand after use so the printed cranes read clearly, and rotate it with plainer cushions to keep the design fresh.
Where does this cushion work best?
It suits a neutral or grey sofa as a focal cushion, and sits well against deeper green walls and other botanical or bird prints.
