Description

Boston is a doorstop shaped as a seated dog, worked in a woven herringbone fabric across the body, head and legs, with soft faux fur on the face, ears and paws and a faux leather snout and collar. The photographs show a brown ground with the herringbone weave picked out in paler amber and near-black threads, giving a fine chevron pattern that reads warm and tweedy from across a room. A single embroidered eye sits on a fawn faux fur patch, and the whole thing has the friendly, slightly comic proportions of a puppy sitting to attention.

This is a floor piece for a hallway, a living room or a study, wherever a door swings shut on a draught or a breeze and you want it held open. It weighs enough to do the job because it is filled with sand as well as polyester, so it stays put rather than skidding across the floor when the door leans on it. The tweedy brown palette sits comfortably against neutral walls, natural baskets and wooden furniture, and it suits a home that leans towards the country or traditional end of things. It also makes an easy gift for anyone fond of dogs.

The fabric is a blend led by polyester with acrylic, wool, viscose, polyamide and a small amount of cotton, which is what gives the herringbone its dry, woollen handle while keeping it hard-wearing. The contrast faux fur and the faux leather snout and collar are what turn a plain weighted bag into a recognisable little dog. Because it is sand-filled, treat it as a decorative object rather than a washable one, and stand it where it will not sit in water. Boston is part of our wider Boston range of home pieces.

Frequently Asked

What holds the door stop in place?

It is filled with a mix of sand and polyester, and the sand gives it the weight needed to hold a door open without sliding across the floor.

What is the outer fabric made of?

The body is a woven herringbone blend led by polyester with acrylic, wool, viscose, polyamide and a little cotton, with soft faux fur on the face, ears and paws.

Can I clean it if it gets grubby?

The supplier gives no washing instructions, so treat it as a decorative object rather than a washable one and keep it away from standing water.

Which rooms does it suit?

It works anywhere a door needs propping, such as a hallway, living room, study or bedroom, and the tweedy brown tones suit neutral and country style interiors.

Would it make a good gift?

Yes, its puppy shape and herringbone coat make it an easy present for dog lovers or anyone who likes a bit of character in a practical object.
