Description

The Bloomsbury cushion is a 50 x 50cm square worked in cut velvet, its face carved into an abstract, irregular cellular pattern that catches the light where the pile stands proud and falls into shadow in the recesses. It is a polyester velvet, which is what gives the surface its glossy sheen and its resistance to crushing underfoot of daily use. The reverse is a plain velvet in the same taupe, so the cushion reads well whichever way it lands, and the two faces meet at a piped trim that runs the full perimeter.

At 50 x 50cm this is the larger of the common square sizes, the one that anchors the back of a sofa or a wide armchair rather than perching on a dining chair. The taupe is a soft, warm grey-brown that sits comfortably against cream and off-white upholstery, as the last photograph shows, and holds its own against a deeper wall colour such as teal or petrol.
