Baymont Frosted Diffuser Pendant 40cm Antique Gold - Satin Nickel

A single lamp pendant with a 40cm dual faux silk shade, antique gold on the outside and lined in ruby so the light picks up a little warmth on its way through. Beneath it sits a frosted acrylic diffuser rimmed in satin nickel, which softens the view up into the shade and spreads light more evenly down. The suspension is satin nickel too, and the drop can be kept short over a table or let out past three metres for a stairwell. It takes a single E27 lamp, and we would put an LED GLS in it.

It suits a dining table or a kitchen island, where the diffuser keeps the lamp out of sight of anyone seated, and it does the same job as a single hanging light in a hall, on a landing or beside a bed. The amount of adjustment means it can sit low and close or hang high and quiet, so it is one we point people towards when a ceiling is taller than usual. Fit a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer and the level comes down for the evening.

The shade is faux silk, antique gold outside and ruby within, and the diffuser is acrylic rather than glass, which keeps the whole fitting light. Cleaning is a soft brush over the fabric to lift dust, and a barely damp cloth on the acrylic once the lamp has gone cold. It is meant for dry indoor rooms on an ordinary mains supply. It carries a one year warranty. Elsewhere in the range are universal flush and semi flush fittings and linear pendants, finished in satin nickel, polished chrome, antique brass, satin black or white. Lamps are not included.

What lamp does it take, and how powerful can it be?

One E27 lamp up to 20W. An LED GLS in the A60 shape is the recommended choice and sits neatly behind the diffuser.

How far down does it hang?

The drop runs from 390mm at its shortest to 3310mm at full extension, so it covers everything from a low ceiling to a stairwell.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp with a dimmer suited to it. No dimmer is supplied with the pendant.

What size is the shade?

It measures 400mm across and 180mm deep, with an overall body height of 355mm.

How should I clean the shade and diffuser?

Switch the light off and let the lamp cool. Lift dust from the faux silk with a soft brush, then wipe the acrylic with a slightly damp cloth and dry it. Avoid solvents and abrasive creams on the acrylic.

Is the ruby colour visible from the room?

It lines the inside of the shade rather than the outer face, so you see antique gold from across the room and a warmer tone in the light itself.
