Baymont E27 Brass Diffuser Pendant 40cm Gold Foil - Antique Brass

Gold foil across the outside of the shade gives this pendant a warm, slightly uneven sheen, while a white laminate lining keeps the light clean as it falls. The shade measures 40cm across, wide enough to read as the main light in a room without crowding it. Beneath it sits a frosted acrylic diffuser ringed in antique brass, which takes the glare off the lamp and spreads a softer glow underneath. The suspension and ceiling plate carry the same antique brass finish.

We reach for this one over a dining table or a kitchen island, where the diffuser keeps the light comfortable at eye level, and it does just as well in a hallway or above a bed. The drop is adjustable and can be taken out to 3.3m, so a tall stairwell or a room with a high ceiling is no obstacle, and it shortens right down where the ceiling is ordinary. It takes an E27 lamp, and we would fit a warm white GLS LED. Dimming is possible if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer, though neither comes with the fitting.

The shade is a rolled drum with gold foil laid over the outer face and a white laminate inside, and the acrylic diffuser closes the base rather than leaving the lamp on show. Keep it looking well by switching off at the wall, letting things cool, then lifting dust from the foil with a soft brush; the diffuser will take a barely damp cloth, and nothing stronger than that. It carries a one year warranty. Antique brass runs through the rest of the Baymont range too, in a small semi-flush fixture and in linear pendants for longer tables, so a matched scheme is easy enough. Lamps are not included.

How wide is the shade, and how tall is the fitting itself?

The shade is 400mm in diameter and 180mm deep, and the body of the pendant stands 355mm tall.

What lamp should I use?

It takes a single E27 lamp rated up to 20W, and an LED GLS A60 is the sensible choice. Lamps are supplied separately.

Can I adjust how far it hangs?

Yes. The drop runs from 390mm at its shortest to 3310mm at its longest, which covers everything from a standard ceiling to a stairwell void.

Is it dimmable?

It can be dimmed, provided you use a dimmable lamp together with a matching dimmer. No dimmer is supplied with the pendant.

How do I clean the gold foil without marking it?

Use a soft dry brush or a clean duster only. Foil finishes dislike moisture and cleaning sprays, so save the barely damp cloth for the acrylic diffuser.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry rooms such as dining rooms, bedrooms, halls and living spaces.
