A wide drum shade in ivory pearl faux silk sits close to the ceiling here, carried on a satin nickel frame. The shade measures 60cm across, so it reads as a broad, softly lit disc rather than a hanging fitting. Inside, a white laminate lining bounces light back out through the fabric, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside so the downward light lands evenly rather than in hot spots.

We reach for this in rooms where a pendant would hang too low: landings, wide hallways, a bedroom under a shallow ceiling, or a dining table in a flat. Five lampholders give it enough spread for a large room, and since it takes ordinary GLS-shaped LED lamps up to 20W apiece you can set the warmth and brightness to suit the space. It will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer, neither of which comes with it. It suits anyone who wants the softness of a fabric shade without losing headroom.

The metalwork is finished in satin nickel, a soft brushed sheen that keeps marks and dust less obvious than bright chrome. Dust the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum, wipe the diffuser with a barely damp cloth, and always turn the power off and let the fitting cool before you touch it. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range runs to plainer fittings you dress with your own shade, including semi flush versions and linear pendants in the same satin nickel, so the finish can carry through from hall to dining room. How far down does it hang?

Overall height is 42cm, with the metal body accounting for 220mm of that, so it stays close to the ceiling and keeps clear of head height in a room of normal proportions.

Which lamps should I fit?

It takes five E27 lamps and GLS A60 LED lamps are the ones we would choose, up to 20W each. They are bought separately.

Can I put it on a dimmer?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a dimmer matched to them. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

Is 60cm too wide for a hallway?

In a narrow passage it will feel dominant. We would keep it for a wide hall, a generous landing, a bedroom or a dining space, and use a smaller fitting where the walls close in.

How do I keep the faux silk looking fresh?

Dry dusting is best. A soft brush or the upholstery attachment on a vacuum lifts dust from the weave, and the acrylic diffuser takes a barely damp cloth. Avoid sprays and solvents on the fabric.

Where should it not be used?

It is made for dry rooms indoors, so keep it away from bathrooms, shower rooms and anywhere exposed to steam or damp.
