Description

Antique brass metalwork and gold leaf give this one a warm glint rather than a hard shine. Three E27 lampholders sit in a row along a slim suspended bar, with 30cm gold leaf shading lined in white laminate, so the light that reaches the room is soft and slightly warmed. The drop adjusts across a wide span, from a short hang under a standard ceiling to a much longer one where the ceiling is tall. It will dim too, provided the lamps and the dimmer are chosen to work together.

We would reach for a linear pendant like this over a long dining table, a kitchen island or a wide run of worktop, where a line of lamps covers the length far better than one central fitting can. It sits happily in a room that already carries warm metal in the taps, handles or frames, and the gold interior keeps the light kind on faces at the table. LED GLS lamps are what we would fit, for the light they give and the small draw. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a porch or a shower zone calls for a different fitting altogether.

The frame is steel finished in antique brass, aged in tone rather than bright, and the shade is faced in gold leaf over a white laminate liner. For upkeep, take the power off at the wall, let things cool, then lift dust from the shade with a soft brush and buff the brass with a dry cloth only, keeping polishes and sprays away from both. It carries a one year warranty. The same Baymont shade turns up on flush ceiling fittings in white and in polished chrome, which is where we would go if headroom is short and a pendant would hang too low. Lamps are not included.
